Myrtle Beach Golf Courses

Wedgefield Plantation Golf Club

Wedgefield Plantation Golf Club is a jewel located at the southern end of the Grand Strand on what was once a flourishing rice plantation along the Black River in historic Georgetown. Wedgefield's fairways wind through stands of massive, moss-draped oaks, magnolias, dogwoods, flowering plants and wildlife. The course rewards a good shot, it is golf as it should be. Wedgefield Plantation is located just outside of Georgetown, SC on the Black River. The nearest Beach is only twenty minutes away. The resort town of Myrtle Beach is 30 - 45 minutes to the north and historic Charleston is 45 minutes to the south.

A less than 450 yard par five? Where's the catch? The golfer is reminded that even the prestigious Augusta National has a shorter than 'the standard par 5.' Seventeen does provide a realistic birdie or even eagle opportunity for the medium long golfer and a more than even try for birdie for the average golfer. It also provides a realistic double bogey opportunity for the greedy or careless golfer. The tee shot sets up the entire hole and the golfer must realize that it is the execution of the second shot that will most effect the final score on the hole. The ideal launching point can only be found in the middle by avoiding the fairway bunker to the right, the 'Kiebler' tree left and the marsh area forward. If the tee shot can be Positioned properly, the long hitter may elect a long iron or wood to reach the large green in two. The conservative golfer will choose a mid to long iron to lay up in front of the green and then trust an accurate pitch to set up a birdie try.
